The cottage is ideally located to explore both the mountain and coastal attractions of Snowdonia. Tan-y-bwlch station on the Ffestiniog railway is 3/4 mile from the cottage (about a 15 minute walk). There are no shops or pubs in Rhyd, but two good pubs, the Oakley Arms at Maentwrog and the Brondanw Arms at Garreg Llanfrothen are within 2 miles, or a five minute drive from the cottage. There is a village shop in Garreg Llanfrothen (2 miles) and further shops (Spar/Post Office, newsagents, chemist, butchers, as well as an Indian restaurant) are located in Penrhyndeudraeth (about 3.5 miles from the cottage). The lovely village of Beddgelert is about 7 miles or a 20 minute drive from the cottage. All the major paths up Snowdon are within 20-30 minutes drive from the cottage. Coastal attractions can be easily reached, with Harlech castle and beach about 10 miles from the cottage, and good beaches near Porthmadog (Borth-y-Gest and Black Rock sands) only 15-20 minutes drive away. The Llyn Peninsula can be easily explored from the cottage, with most of the key towns and beauty spots (Criccieth, Abersoch, Aberdaron) within 30-60 minutes drive from the cottage. Portmeirion resort is about 15 minutes drive from the cottage. The cottage is about 2-3 hours drive from major airports at Manchester, Liverpool or Birmingham.
